His father is of Black Nova Scotian origin while his mother is of Samoan heritage which explains his exotic appearance. He remained in New Zealand for a brief period of time and before returning to the United States he attended Richmond Road Primary School where he enrolled at Freedom High School. He was an athletic teenager and participated in many sports activities.
He used to play football and was also a member of the school's track and field and wrestling teams. His favorite sport was football and he received a full scholarship from the University of Miami to play defensive combat. However, an injury shattered his football career dreams.
